Performed by: Nina Biong HUMAN is a 50 minutes’ solo stage performance combining contemporary dance, visuals and specially composed music and sound. Performed by Nina Biong, HUMAN looks at how a person can exist within the socially taboo psychological diagnose schizophrenia.  HUMAN is a collaboration between Plire Multi Dance (Tharan Revfem) and Tundra* (Espen Haslene). Tharan and Espen have been collaborating on various projects since 2008. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder which affects how a person thinks, feels and acts. “The feeling is like your insides are on fire. Your mind is on fire. Your outsides are on fire, but no one can see any of it. It is an invisible, panic-driven torment.” Through a live dance cinematic experience we take our audience on a journey from the imaginary to the real, from light to dark, dream to nightmare and back to the dream. From the positive to the negative and the beautiful and ugly - reflecting the torment of the mind and body and visually representing the life of a person suffering from schizofrenia, including states such as the confused early development of the disease, highly medicated states but also the calm and success of managing to live a normal life. We are working with abstract dance movements inspired by and being interrupted by stereotypic behaviours such as rocking, pacing, posturing, strange mannerisms, repetitive moments, mutism etc. mixed in with the normal daily life body behaviours. We are not trying to copy a schizophrenic person and behaviour, but use the physical and mental restriction they inhabit to create choreographed movements that represent the human behind the diagnose. Our unique visual concept for Human is to create all our visuals using only the dancers body parts and movements. By doing so we are setting our premise to reflect both the emotional and physical effects of having schizofrenia by studying our dancers body and telling our story using only these elements. This creative approach and storytelling is very unique and will enhance the dramatic experience of the viewer. The stage design by constrainig the physical space by encasing her within three video walls will also enhance these experiences. Hallucinations, Delusions and Movement Disorders are three of the main symptoms of schizophrenia. Through our artistic expressions we are exploring our idea of how we can communicate the existence of a human being within and behind a “schizophrenic mind”. We want the audience to go on an emotional journey - but it’s important that they also physically feel what the person on our stage is experiencing. We want to confuse the audiences’ minds, their sights and hearing. By creating distortions mixing choreographed dance movements with surprising sounds that sometimes are in contrast to what the dancer is doing - and of course utilising our three visual video walls - all these elements will sometimes work together in unison and sometimes in total un-balanced contrasts - and by doing so underlining the ‘schizophrenic experience’. Tundra* is a visual studio in Oslo and London headed up by Film and Animation Director Espen Haslene and Art Director Karine Faou. They have won numerous international awards in both film and TV including Gold at the Promax BDA Europe Awards and have had their films shown at major film festivals such as Toronto, London and Berlin and also been nominated on the long list for the Oscars Awards. Their work is often highly crafted visuals and current clients include Alexander McQueen, NRK, Mulberry, Itv, and numerous international agencies. Tharan Revfem is a Norwegian choreographer and the founder of Plire Multi Dance. She was a semi-finalist at the choreographic competitions The Place Prize (London, UK) and Nordic Grand Prix (Kuopio, Finland) with their production DOT. Her work has been shown at various venues both nationally and internationally. In 2014 she received 3-year work scholarship from the Norwegian Art Council. Tharan and Tundra* are working very closely and collaboratively developing the story and drama with the aim that we will create a show where the visuals and choreography are strongly united. A unique approach to these visuals is that we are only using the dancer Nina's body parts to create all our screen content.
